Have You Had Your Green Tea Today?

Green tea is one of my favorite super foods. I’ve been drinking it for many years, but I had no idea about all of the health benefits until I became a health coach. If you haven’t added green tea into your daily routine, there is no better time to start than now!

Many people don’t enjoy the taste of green tea. I have always loved it, but learning how to steep it correctly elevated the experience of drinking green tea even more.

BENEFITS OF DRINKING GREEN TEA

The list is seemingly endless but here are a few of the health benefits:

  • prevention of cancer and free radical damage

  • osteoporosis and higher bone density

  • lowers risk of stroke, heart attack and hypertension

  • cataract prevention

  • reduces cognitive impairment, including Alzheimer’s

  • increases brain wave activity

  • improved insulin sensitivity

  • lowers stress hormones and depression symptoms

When buying any tea (or coffee) make sure it is always organic. Tea and coffee are are heavily sprayed with chemicals and pesticides. All those health benefits diminish if you are adding in a chemical cocktail with each cup.

I have a personal client who noticed an extreme difference when she started drinking 1-2 cups of green tea each day. She had a schedule change over the summer, but when her life transitioned back to her regular routine and she added green tea back in, she noticed in less than a week how her days are different when she drinks it daily. Life is just so much better by keeping up with this daily habit. All the other benefits are phenomenal health bonuses.

HOW TO STEEP GREEN TEA

Never use boiling water and always pour a little of the heated water over the leaves, drain and then fill your cup, only steeping for 1-3 minutes. This will leave you with a wonderful tasting cup of tea to enjoy.

HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR TEA?

Green tea can be drank plain, with a little honey, or with a little coconut oil to increase the fat burning properties. I feel loose leaf tea tastes much better than pre-packaged tea bags. Try out a few different kinds and find your favorite! You can find what I’m currently drinking HERE. I also found an awesome matcha and mushroom powder that I heat with soy milk and a little honey or agave that tastes great. If you want a wide variety of tea to choose from check out Mountain Rose Herbs green and white tea selections HERE.

Instead of reaching for that mid-morning coffee, make yourself a cup of green tea, ground with the Earth and see just how life-changing a simple habit can be. I recommend doing this daily for at least two weeks, but preferably four, keep a journal, track any physical symptoms (or lack of) and mental symptoms. Gain your own life proof with this one simple habit and see where it could possibly lead you.
